Our picks for 2014 take in Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

Mistura, Lima
The brainchild of leading Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, Mistura (literally meaning ‘mix’) has become the continent’s most popular food fair, attracting one million visitors each year. Given that Peru is the ultimate South American larder with ingredients sourced from the Andes, the Amazons and 1,000 miles of Pacific coastline, the festival brings together these diverse regions while accommodating the most humble of street food carts, the country’s top chefs and tiny producers under one umbrella.
